Game Recap

Oct 13
Ft Stockton vs Sweetwater, a game that would go all the way to the wire. At first it looked as if we would dominate the whole game, scoring twice in the first quarter on a pass from Iram Villereal to Uber Granado from 40 yards out, then in the next series, Villereal hooked up with Damian Busby on 46 yard strike to the 1 yard line, and Villereal scored on next play withb 1 yard run. 12-0 in 1st. Second quarter we gave up a score, but quickly recovered on a 65 yard touchdown pass from Villereal to Dallan Galindo, followed by extra poit kick by Mattew Casias. We went into half leading 19-8. Coming out after half we quickly resumed our agressive play, driving down the field in dramatic fashion, with exciting runs, one in particular, Micheal Ellison’s QB keeper for 28 yards, then on the next play with Villereal, he finds Abel Lopez on a 40 yard pass for a Touchdown. Lead stretched to 25-7, at that point we thought we had everything in order, but uts why we play the game. In the fourth we woul have 2 costly touchdowns after turnovers that would lead 14 points for our opponent’s. The late in the quater sweetwater with the ball driving down inside our 10 yard line, we came with a turnover, interception by Derek Hernandez, which he had 3 int’s in the game. We took over, but was unable to gain any yards with time winding down leading 25-22, so we made a strategic move, kneeling the ball in endzone, taking a safety, making the score 25-24, and kicking to Sweetwater with under a minute to play. Then Derek Hernandez comes up with the game winning interception to close out the game. Defense was lead by Josh Hernandez, Derek Hernandez, Izaiah Lujuan, Jaden Gonzalez, and Isaiah Colla all having more 7 tackles a piece. We had total of 5 take aways. Granado also had a interception during the game. I believe that had to our best effort as a team in any game this year, as they stormed back in the fourth quarter, and we stood strong, never breaking. We had 252 passing, and 229 rushing in the game, great balance. We can only hope to get better as we face Seminole at there place, next after our bye, on Oct 27, and Monahans on Nov 3 at home, to close out our freshman season. Go Panthers
